How it works
How to create a WiFi QR code
- 1
Enter your network details
Type the network name (SSID) exactly as it appears on your phone, choose the security type and add the password.
- 2
Style and download
Keep the default dark-on-light colors or match your brand. Download a 1024 px PNG for screens or an SVG for print.
- 3
Test, then print
Scan it with an iPhone and an Android phone before printing. Place it where guests can reach it — a table, the fridge or the front desk.
Generated entirely in your browser — nothing you type is uploaded.
What is a WiFi QR code?
A WiFi QR code stores your network name, security type and password in a standard format (WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;;) that phone cameras understand. When someone scans it, their phone offers to join the network — the password is filled in for them.
Because everything is inside the pattern itself, the code works offline and never expires. Nothing is looked up online when it’s scanned, which also means QR-10 never sees your password: this generator builds the code entirely in your browser.
Is it safe to share Wi-Fi with a QR code?
A WiFi QR code is as private as the password written on a card: anyone who can scan or photograph it can join. For homes that’s usually fine. For cafés, offices and rentals, put the code on a separate guest network so visitors never get access to your printers, cameras or work devices.
If you rotate the guest password regularly, print the code somewhere easy to replace, or use a dynamic Wi-Fi code (see below) so you can update the password without reprinting.
Choosing the right security type
Choose WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 for practically every modern router — it’s the setting your network almost certainly uses. Pick WEP only for very old equipment, and “None” for open networks that have no password. If you’re unsure, check your router’s admin page or the label on the router.
Use cases
Where a WiFi QR code saves time
Homes
Stick one inside a kitchen cabinet or on the fridge so friends and family never have to ask for the password again.
Cafés and restaurants
Add it to table tents or the counter so customers connect without interrupting staff.
Holiday rentals and hotels
Put it in the welcome guide or on the bedside table — one of the most-asked guest questions, answered.
Offices and co-working
Let visitors join the guest network from reception without IT handing out passwords.
Events and conferences
Print it on badges, lanyards or signage so attendees get online in seconds.
Shops and waiting rooms
Clinics, salons and showrooms can keep waiting customers happy with free Wi-Fi.
Best practices
Tips for a WiFi QR code that always works
Match the network name exactly
Network names are case-sensitive and spaces count. Copy the name from your phone’s Wi-Fi list to be sure.
Use a guest network
Most routers can create a separate guest network. Share that one, not the network your own devices use.
Print it big enough
At least 3 × 3 cm (about 1.2 inches) for a table card, larger for a wall poster that people scan from a distance.
Add a short label
“Scan to join our Wi-Fi” plus the network name helps people who want to connect manually.
Keep strong contrast
Dark code on a light background scans best. Avoid light-on-dark colors and busy backgrounds.
Re-test after any router change
A new password, network name or router means a new code. Scan your printed copies after every change.
Static or dynamic?
Static WiFi code or dynamic? Here’s the honest answer
A static WiFi code (what this free generator makes) is the best choice for most people: phones read the password straight from the code and join automatically. A dynamic Wi-Fi code from QR-10 opens a small page with the network name and password instead — guests copy the password with one tap — but you can change the password later without reprinting, and see how many people scanned.
- Static: joins automatically, works offline, free forever
- Dynamic: update the password anytime, no reprinting
- Dynamic: scan counts by day, time and device
FAQ
WiFi QR code questions
Yes. You can create and download as many WiFi QR codes as you like, in PNG or SVG, with no sign-up and no watermark. The codes never expire.
No. The QR code is generated entirely in your browser. Your network name and password are never sent to QR-10 or anyone else.
Yes. iPhones running iOS 11 or later and Android phones running Android 10 or later can join a network straight from the camera (or Google Lens). Older phones can still read the network name and password with any QR scanner app.
The old code will stop working, because the password is stored inside it. Generate and print a new one. If you change passwords often, a dynamic Wi-Fi code lets you update the password without reprinting.
Yes. Tick “Hidden network” when you create the code. Phones will then try to join the network even though it does not broadcast its name.
Yes. Choose “None (open)” as the security type and leave the password empty. Scanning the code will connect guests to the open network.
Yes. Anyone who scans the code can join the network, and QR reader apps can display the password. Share a guest network rather than your main one, especially in public places.
