How it works

How to make a WhatsApp QR code

  1. 1

    Enter your number

Use the full international format with the country code, without the leading 0 (e.g. +91 98765 43210).

  2. 2

    Add a message (optional)

Pre-fill something like “Hi! I’d like to order.” so people know what to send. They can edit it first.

  3. 3

    Download and test

Scan it with a phone that has WhatsApp: it should open a chat with your number and message.

Generated entirely in your browser — nothing you type is uploaded.

How a WhatsApp QR code works

The code contains a WhatsApp “click to chat” link (wa.me/your-number), WhatsApp’s official way to start a chat with someone who hasn’t saved your number. Scanning it opens WhatsApp with your chat ready and your message typed in; the customer only taps send.

It works with personal and WhatsApp Business numbers, on iPhone and Android, and on WhatsApp Web if someone scans from their computer.

Getting the number right

The most common mistake is a local number. wa.me needs the country code and no leading 0: an Indian number 098765 43210 becomes 91 98765 43210, and a UK number 07700 900123 becomes 44 7700 900123. We remove spaces, dashes and the plus sign for you.

Use cases

Ways businesses use WhatsApp QR codes

  • Takeaway and table orders

“Scan to order on WhatsApp” on menus, flyers and delivery bags.

  • Shops and boutiques

Product questions, stock checks and orders from the shop window, even after hours.

  • Bookings

Salons, clinics and tutors take appointments without a booking system.

  • Services and repairs

Customers send photos of the problem straight from the van sticker or card.

  • Real estate

“Scan to ask about this property” on boards and brochures.

  • Delivery and support

A code on the parcel for delivery questions, returns or reorders.

Best practices

Tips for a WhatsApp QR code that gets messages

  • Pre-fill the reason

“Hi, I saw your flyer about…” tells you which campaign brought the chat.

  • Say when you reply

“We reply 9am–7pm” sets expectations and avoids frustrated customers.

  • Use WhatsApp Business

Free, with greeting and away messages, labels and a catalogue.

  • Test with another phone

Check the number and message on a phone that doesn’t have your chat yet.

Static or dynamic?

A dynamic WhatsApp code survives a number change

A static code is fixed to one number forever. If your business number changes, every printed flyer, sticker and van wrap stops reaching you. A dynamic code lets you switch the number or message in seconds, and counts how many chats each placement starts.

  • Free static code for your number
  • Change number or message without reprinting
  • Scan analytics per flyer and location

FAQ

WhatsApp QR code questions

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark, and static codes never expire.

Yes. wa.me links work with both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business numbers.

No. That’s the point: the code opens a chat with you directly, without adding you to their contacts.

Usually the country code is missing or there’s a leading 0. Enter the full international number, e.g. +44 7700 900123 instead of 07700 900123.

With a dynamic QR-10 code, yes: scans by day, location and device. Static codes can’t count scans.
