Scan a QR code on your computer screen

Codes in emails, PDFs, slides and websites are easy to read without a phone: take a screenshot (Win + Shift + S on Windows, ⌘ + Shift + 4 on Mac), then press Ctrl+V or ⌘V on this page. The code is decoded instantly and you can click or copy the link on the same computer.

You can also point your phone’s camera at the screen. Turn the screen brightness up and keep the code fully in view.

Scanning safely

  • Check the website name before opening a link. Fake sites copy real brands with small spelling changes.
  • Be wary of stickers on parking meters, posters and payment terminals: scammers paste their own codes over real ones.
  • Never enter passwords, card details or one-time codes on a site you reached from an unexpected QR code.
  • A QR code that asks you to pay or log in “urgently” is a classic scam sign.

FAQ

QR code scanner questions

Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no limits. Scan as many QR codes as you like from images, screenshots or your camera.

No. The code is read by your own browser on your device. Images and camera video never leave your phone or computer.

Click “Choose an image” and pick the photo or screenshot, drag it onto the box, or copy it and press Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac). The content appears straight away.

The image may be blurry, too small, cut off at the edges or taken at a steep angle. Crop closer to the code, use a sharper photo, or try the camera and hold the phone steady about 15–30 cm away.

Scanning only reads the code, so it can’t harm your device on its own. The risk is the link inside: this scanner shows you the real website first and never opens anything automatically. Don’t enter passwords or card details on a site you reached from a code you don’t trust.

This scanner reads QR codes only, not regular product barcodes.
