Audio and MP3 QR code generator

Let people listen from paper: an audio guide on an exhibit, a song on a gift card, a podcast on a poster. Paste the link to your audio file or page and download a print-ready code.

How it works

How to make an audio QR code

  1. 1

    Put the audio online

Upload to SoundCloud, a podcast host, Google Drive or Dropbox (set to “Anyone with the link”), or your website.

  2. 2

    Paste the link

For a music release, paste the Spotify link or use the Spotify QR code generator.

  3. 3

    Test with headphones

Scan with a phone on mobile data to check it plays without signing in.

Generated entirely in your browser — nothing you type is uploaded.

Where should the audio live?

A QR code holds a link, not the sound file, so the audio needs a home online. For an MP3, a file on your own website plays directly in the phone’s browser. SoundCloud and podcast hosts give you a player page with your artwork. Google Drive and Dropbox work for private recordings when sharing is set to “Anyone with the link”.

For songs and podcasts already on Spotify or Apple Podcasts, link the listing itself so people can follow or save it.

Keep it easy to listen

People often scan in a museum, on the street or in a shop. Keep clips short, say up front what they will hear, and offer a transcript or text for people who can’t listen right now.

Audio guides on labels and trail markers, in several languages.

A new single on posters, merch and CD-free gig flyers.

The latest episode on business cards, slides and ads.

  • Gifts and cards

Best practices

Tips for audio QR codes

  • Say what they’ll hear

“Scan to hear the 2-minute story of this painting” beats a bare code.

  • Check it plays signed out

Private files are the most common reason audio codes fail.

  • Use MP3 for files

MP3 plays on every phone; some formats, like WAV or FLAC, may not.

  • Use a dynamic code for series

Point one printed code at each new episode or track.

Static or dynamic?

One printed code, always the latest audio

A static code is fixed to one link. A dynamic code lets you swap the audio for the next episode, a new language or an updated guide, without reprinting, and shows how many people scanned each label or poster.

  • Free static audio code
  • Swap the audio anytime
  • Scan analytics per exhibit or placement

FAQ

Audio QR code questions

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark, and static codes never expire.

No QR code can hold an audio file; it holds a link to where the file is online. Upload the MP3 to your website, SoundCloud, Google Drive or Dropbox first.

An MP3 link or a SoundCloud page plays in the phone’s browser. Spotify links play best in the Spotify app.

Not with a static code. A dynamic QR-10 code lets you point the same printed code at new audio anytime.
